Going to bed without removing your makeup will mess up whatever tidy skincare routine you’ve put in place. It contains ingredients that may clog your pores and cause breakouts or a duller complexion.
But again, many makeup removers also contain harsh ingredients that may dehydrate and damage the skin. And if your skin is sensitive, you can likely relate to irritations caused by too much fragrance or preservatives.
Accordingly, if you want to use makeup without experiencing any potential downsides, we recommend choosing one of the following natural makeup removers:
1. Coconut oil
Coconut oil works excellently for moisturizing, cooking, and removing makeup. You only need to apply it to a surface and rub it on your skin. After rinsing it off with warm water, use a towel to dab the excess away.
It works well for heavy makeup removal too, and it also doesn’t matter if it’s waterproof.
The icing on the cake is its many beneficial effects on the skin. But if your skin is prone to acne breakouts, coconut oil may aggravate it because it clogs the pores.
2. Jojoba oil
Now, this is a safe option for acne-prone skin. Although it’s popular as a carrier oil for other essential oils, jojoba oil is an excellent non-comedogenic product for removing makeup, waterproof or otherwise. Apply some on your face and wash off after a minute.
But aside from removing your makeup, jojoba oil also regulates sebum production. And its antioxidants are super beneficial for your skin.
3. Milk
A milk cleanser is better for sensitive skin types. And aside from removing makeup, it also helps seal in your skin’s natural oils and moisture.
4. Sweet almond oil
This oil is an excellent vitamin A source, and you can use it without fear of acne breakouts. Avoid products that aren’t cold-pressed and unrefined products because they lose their quality to the chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
All skin types can use sweet almond oil makeup removers.
5. Witch hazel
Use an alcohol-free witch hazel makeup remover if you have oily skin. It has an anti-inflammatory nature that also combats acne. Mix with some water and jojoba oil before applying to the skin.
6. Argan oil
Argan oil is an anti-inflammatory makeup remover that also moisturizes the skin. And to top it off, it’s loaded with antioxidants and fatty acids.
7. Grapeseed oil
Grapeseed oil has a high linoleic acid content which is excellent for repairing the skin barrier. It’s ideal for removing makeup or as part of your skincare routine.
However, if your skin is prone to acne breakouts or is generally reactive, it’s best to use grapeseed oil cautiously. And although it may be tempting to use it plainly or with a carrier oil, manufactured products are better because they’re more effective and gentler on the skin.
They’re also less likely to clog your pores or incite a breakout.
8. Olive oil
The benefits of olive oil to the skin and hair are numerous. And it makes an excellent makeup remover because it’s better at breaking down waxy and clingy materials common in makeup products.
